Archimedes 300 Series Service Manual Component Level Supplement
The Archimedes 300 Series Service Manual Component Level Supplement (Acorn part number 0476,145, Issue 1, October 1988) is the component-level companion to the Archimedes 300 Series Service Manual. It is the document that lets an A305 or A310 be repaired rather than board-swapped.
What it contains
[edit | edit source]- Full main PCB parts list — every resistor and capacitor designator with its value, tolerance and Acorn part number, and the IC list with board positions. The board's electrolytic and tantalum capacitors are C14, C20, C35, C36, C37, C38, C39, C40, C50, C52 and the eighteen positions marked 'B'; the three 100 µF 16 V tantalums are C37, C38 and C39.
- IC positions — ARM at IC43, MEMC at IC45, VIDC1a at IC17, IOC at IC21, the programmed PAL 16L8A at IC44, the 1772 floppy disc controller at IC47, the 65C51 serial ACIA at IC9, the PCF8583 real-time clock and non-volatile RAM at IC16, and the sixteen 4464 120 ns DRAMs at IC69–IC76 and IC78–IC85.

- Component-level fault-finding for video failure, system failure, unstable or scrolling display, corrupted display, wrong or missing colours, keyboard and mouse, floppy drive, printer, serial port, audio, and the configuration/NVRAM/real-time-clock circuit.
- Test ROM procedures — main memory test and repetitive reset test.
- Circuit diagrams for the hard disc podule, MIDI podule, Econet module and the 2-way backplane.
- Acorn's production and field change notices.
What it does not contain
[edit | edit source]It does not repeat the main PCB circuit diagram (that is in the module-level manual) and it does not cover the power supply unit, which Acorn documented nowhere for this machine. It covers the 300 series board only — the A440 and the A400/1 series use different boards with their own parts lists.
