Apple IIGS Owner's Reference
The Apple IIGS Owner's Reference (Apple Computer, Inc.) is Apple's owner-level manual for the Apple IIGS. It is cited on this wiki chiefly for the machine's documented battery symptoms.
What is in it
[edit | edit source]- Control Panel settings are held in battery-powered RAM which keeps them with the machine switched off. "If the battery is running low, the Control Panel automatically restores the [factory] settings."
- Troubleshooting: if the Control Panel options revert to their factory settings and revert again after you reset them, "the computer's battery is running low. Have your authorized Apple dealer replace the battery."
- Time: "If you notice that the clock isn't keeping accurate time, ask your authorized Apple dealer to install a new battery."
Both symptoms are routed to a dealer rather than to the owner because the battery is soldered to the main logic board. Those two symptoms are also the earliest warning a IIGS gives that a battery is on its way to leaking - see Apple IIGS.
