The IBM Personal System/2 XGA Display Adapter/A Technical Reference, First Edition (September 1990), part number 15F2219, form number S15F-2219-0, is IBM's short hardware reference for the XGA Display Adapter/A, a Micro Channel display adapter for systems with an 80386, 80386SX or 80486 processor. The PDF has 19 pages. Figures a repairer can use
[edit | edit source]- Power (Figure 1, p. 3): the 512 KB card draws 1.6 A (8.0 W) at +5.0 V and the 1 MB card 1.9 A (9.5 W). The Model 70 and Model 80 technical references (October 1990, channel load current figures) allow 1.6 A at +5 V on a 16-bit channel connector and 2.0 A on a 32-bit connector, so the 1 MB card is within the 32-bit limit and above the 16-bit one.
- Memory and resolution (p. 1): 512 KB of VRAM, upgradable to 1 MB with the Video Memory Expansion Option; 1024 × 768 with 256 colours needs 1 MB.
- Slots (pp. 1, 5): a 32/16-bit adapter with a Base Video Extension connector. It fits any 16-bit or 32-bit Micro Channel slot except the Auxiliary Video extension slot, and supplies VGA data to the Auxiliary Video Extension connector only when it sits in the Base Video extension slot.
- Multiple adapters (p. 2): up to six per system (five where the system board has XGA); only one may run in VGA mode.
- 8514/A (p. 2): not register-compatible; DOS programs written to the 8514/A Adapter Interface run through the supplied DOS Adapter Interface.
