What it covers

[edit | edit source]

The electrical parts list on page 21 gives value, circuit reference and Amstrad part number for every resistor, capacitor, IC, transistor and diode on the CPC 664 main board and its 300-series cassette-interface parts. It names the Z8400APS CPU (IC111), the HSG3130/3170 gate array (IC116, part 40010), the TMM-23256P-1952 system ROM (IC103), the µPD765AC disc controller (IC201), the FDC9216BT data separator (IC202) and the TMM-23128P-1951 AMSDOS ROM (IC204). A note under the list says no part numbers are given for anything on the drive's own board, PCB30001; a faulty board was to be returned with the whole drive mechanism for replacement. The disc control circuit diagram on pages 35–36 is the schematic of that board, with component values and test voltages, marked for information only.

The software-errors page and the diagnostic flow chart (pp. 7–11) separate disc read and write errors caused by software or media from drive faults. The alignment checks that follow are marked as information only: Amstrad's service agents were not to repair or adjust the drive mechanism. The GT65 and CTM644 sections each carry an electrical parts list, alignment instructions and a voltage chart.

The back-page specification gives the Z80A at 4 MHz, 64K of RAM (over 41K available to the user), 32K of ROM for BASIC and the operating system, the 6845, the AY-3-8912 and the 8255. The 3-inch drive follows the Hitachi/Panasonic standard, with the software set for a 12 ms step rate and 30 ms settling time. The computer takes 5 V from the monitor through a 5 mm socket and has a separate 5 mm plug and lead to the monitor's 12 V disc supply socket. The safety test is a 3 kV flash test and an insulation test requiring at least 4 MΩ.

What this manual does not contain

[edit | edit source]
  • Part numbers for the drive's own board (PCB30001); its values are on the schematic only.
  • The CPC 464, 6128 or Plus range.
  • A text layer, so the parts lists cannot be searched.
