What this manual does not contain

[edit | edit source]

Each sheet gives processor, cache, memory, display, graphics, disk, drives, keyboard, dimensions, weight, battery type and life, chipset, preloaded software and availability and withdrawal dates, with a column for each type-model. There are no FRU part numbers, procedures, voltages or schematics. Models still on sale in January 2001 (for example the A, T and X series) are not included.

What it settles

[edit | edit source]

The ThinkPad 240 sheet (p. 2) is typical: Intel Mobile Celeron at 300, 366 or 400 MHz on a 66 MHz bus, soldered in a ball grid array; 128 KB on-board L2 cache; 64 MB standard memory, 192 MB maximum, with one SO-DIMM socket reached by removing three screws and the keyboard; external 1.44 MB diskette drive; type-models 2609-21U, 2609-31U and 2609-41U.

The hardware maintenance manuals are organised by machine type, so this reference is a way to identify a machine from the type-model on its label before choosing a manual.
