Macintosh II/IIx/IIfx Service Source

The Macintosh II/IIx/IIfx volume of Apple's Service Source is a 87-page service manual covering the Macintosh II, IIx and IIfx. The PDF was distilled on 1 December 1995.

Service Source volumes are module-level documents. They give Apple's own specifications, symptom charts, take-apart procedures and module part numbers, but they do not carry schematics, board-level parts lists or component values, so they cannot be used to source a capacitor table. Where a figure below is quoted, it is quoted as Apple printed it.

Additional Procedures carries Macintosh IIfx SCSI Termination, which is the source of the IIfx's distinctive black terminator requirement, and a Battery Holder Board replacement that no other volume has. Larry Pina's Macintosh II Repair and Upgrade Secrets measures the same cells independently and agrees with Apple's threshold: Tadiran 3.6 V lithium cells read 3.2–3.85 V when good, 2.3–3.1 V when weak and are dead below 2.3 V.

What this manual does not contain

  • No schematic, no board-level parts list and no component values.
  • The NuBus and PDS power budgets are not broken out per slot in this volume the way they are in the Quadra 840AV manual.
