Power Macintosh 4400 Service Source
Appearance
The Power Macintosh 4400 volume of Apple's Service Source is a 132-page service manual for the Power Macintosh 4400/200 and 4400/200 PC, the same machines sold in the Far East as the Power Macintosh 7220/200 and 7220/200 PC, and the Europe-only Power Macintosh 4400/160. The PDF was produced in FrameMaker and is dated 20 February 1997.
Like other Service Source volumes, it works at module level: a Basics chapter, specifications, symptom charts, take-apart procedures, upgrades, battery and reset procedures and an exploded view.

What it settles
[edit | edit source]- The supply is switched manually: set the voltage switch to 115 for 100–130 V and 230 for 200–230 V; Apple warns that a wrong setting can damage the computer, and Basics includes a table of mains voltages by country (Voltage Switch, PDF pp. 5–8).
- The battery sits on a hook-and-loop base with a connector. On machines sold in Germany it is in a different place: remove the top housing, link bar and cache card, disconnect it with needle-nose pliers, and press the reset switch on the logic board after fitting the new one (PDF pp. 128–130).
- Logic board reset: disconnect the battery, wait 5–10 minutes and reconnect it; this also clears PRAM (PDF pp. 125–127).
What this manual does not contain
[edit | edit source]- No schematic and no component-level parts list or values.
- No adjustments chapter; the 4400 has no built-in display.
