Twentieth Anniversary Macintosh Service Source
The Twentieth Anniversary Macintosh volume of Apple's Service Source is a 377-page service manual covering the Twentieth Anniversary Macintosh. The PDF was distilled on 15 May 1997.
This is not a repair manual, and Apple says so on page one. Because the machine was a limited production product, Apple wrote: “any service requiring removal of enclosure screws must be handled by a centralized repair center; therefore, detailed repair instructions will not be distributed via Service Source CD.” What the 377 pages actually contain is a short Basics and Specifications section followed by the Twentieth Anniversary Macintosh User Manual reproduced in full.
Service Source volumes are module-level documents. They give Apple's own specifications, symptom charts, take-apart procedures and module part numbers, but they do not carry schematics, board-level parts lists or component values, so they cannot be used to source a capacitor table. Where a figure below is quoted, it is quoted as Apple printed it.

[edit | edit source]The practical consequence is that there is no Apple-published disassembly sequence for this machine anywhere, and anyone opening one is working without a manufacturer's procedure. The Basics chapter does give the rear panel connector map and the instructions for connecting the base unit to the main unit, which is the part most often got wrong.
What this manual does not contain
[edit | edit source]- No Take Apart chapter, no Troubleshooting symptom charts, no Upgrades, no Adjustments, no Additional Procedures, no battery procedure and no parts list. Apple withheld all of it.
- Nothing on the external Bose power base beyond the connection instructions.
- No schematic and no component values.
