VAXstation 3100 Documentation describes the Digital Equipment Corporation documents for the VAXstation 3100, with the PDF of each.

VAXstation 3100 Maintenance Guide (EK-285AA-MG-001)

DEC's field maintenance guide for the Models 30 and 40, order number EK-285AA-MG-001, February 1989, 280 pages with an OCR text layer. The hosted copy was resampled to 120 dpi from the 66 MB bitsavers scan to reduce its size; printed page numbers run 21 behind the PDF page numbers in the first chapters.

Contents: 1 testing (console mode, power-up tests and their display, self-test, the system exerciser); 2 troubleshooting by test number, from TEST F (monochrome video) to TEST 1 (Ethernet), with SCSI bus and drive procedures, power supply troubleshooting (2.22, pp. 57 to 59, with the power connector voltages in Tables 2-15 and 2-16) and monitor troubleshooting (2.23, p. 60); 3 utilities, NVR settings and test patterns; 4 the Model 30 and 5 the Model 40 system, each with FRU removal procedures including the battery pack and the power supply; 6 the RZ55, RRD40 and TK50Z expansion boxes; 7 operating information; appendices A and B console commands, C to F error codes, G the diagnostic LED definitions (pp. 242 to 245) and H the recommended spares list (pp. 246 to 247).

It does not cover the Models 38, 48 or 76, gives no component data for the system module or the power supplies, and refers the monitors to their own guides.

VAXstation 3100 Model 40 Owner's Manual (EK-266AA-OM-001)

The owner's manual for the Model 40, order number EK-266AA-OM-001, January 1989, 186 pages with a text layer. It covers the system's features, choosing a location (p. 2-1), installation, using the drives, adding options and problem solving, with the hardware specifications in Appendix D.

VAXstation 3100 Cover Letter (EK-393AA-CL-001)

A four-page letter, December 1989, shipped with later systems. It lists the owner's manuals for each model (Model 30 EK-265AA-OM, Model 38 EK-VSM30-OM, Model 40 EK-266AA-OM, Model 48 EK-VSM40-OM), gives DEC's SCSI configuration rules (at most seven devices and three expansion boxes, cables no longer than 4 m), the positions of the Ethernet selector, the shutdown order, and errata.

PV 3100 Systems Field Maintenance Print Set (MP-02793-01)

DEC's print set for the VAXstation 3100 hardware, order number MP-02793-01, January 1989, 86 pages without a text layer. Its contents sheet lists the system building blocks PV010 to PV014, the VS42A CPU box assembly, the MS42 memory configurations, the KA42-A, the SCSI/SCSI disk controller 5417445, the SCSI/ST506 disk controller 5417314, the drive assembly and the VS3100 system module 5417312.

Copies of the Model 30 owner's manual (EK-265AA-OM-001) and the Planning and Preparation guide (EK-286AA-RC-001) are on archive.org, and VAXhaven holds the Model 38 owner's manual.
