Nintendo Game Boy Technical Manual

The Nintendo Game Boy Technical Manual is the official Nintendo World Class Service binder issued to authorised service centres for repair and maintenance of the original Game Boy (DMG). The copy hosted here is a complete 116-page scan of a real binder, including its blank change-record sheets and its tabbed dividers.

Revisions

The binder is not a single-dated document. Its sections carry their own revision dates and were replaced individually as Nintendo issued updates: the front matter and change record are Rev. 11/91, while the Game Paks section runs to Rev. 11/93. When citing a figure from it, cite the section and its revision, not the binder as a whole.

What it does not contain

Nothing about the Game Boy Pocket, Game Boy Light, Game Boy Color or Game Boy Advance. It is a DMG document. For the Game Boy Color see Nintendo Game Boy Color Service Manual; for the GBA see Game Boy Advance Service Manual.
No per-position capacitor list. As with Nintendo's other service literature of the period, repair is at the assembly level.
Several of its procedures depend on service-only test fixtures and burn-in equipment that were never sold and are now extremely rare, so those sections are of historical rather than practical use.
The change record is blank, so there is no internal record of which bulletins were issued after this binder was assembled.

Provenance

This binder was recovered from a former Nintendo World Class Service station. The back cover bears a gold sticker reading "Man. technical DMG #21530".
