Apple Macintosh Displays and Video Cards Service Guide (1996)
The Macintosh Displays and Video Cards service guide is Apple's bound service manual for its displays and video cards, dated September 1996. The hosted copy is the Internet Archive's 364-page compressed scan with an OCR text layer.[1] Printed page numbers run 18 behind the PDF page numbers: printed page 12 is PDF page 30.
It complements the separate display volumes of Apple's Service Source. Each display chapter has an exploded view, drawings of the main circuit boards with connector and test-point locations, a parts list, a symptom/cure chart and the adjustment procedures, often with a fold-out adjustment diagram. For several displays the board drawings and parts lists are not in the Service Source.

What it settles
[edit | edit source]- Table 1 (p. 12) gives the model numbers on the information tags: M0401 and M1297 for the AppleColor High-Resolution RGB (13-inch, Rev. A and Rev. B), M1903 for the Basic Color Monitor, M1050 for the 12-inch monochrome, M1296 for the 12-inch RGB, M1212 for the Macintosh Color Display, M2001 for the AudioVision 14, M1298 for the 16-inch and M3502 for the 21-inch.[1]
- Table 2 (p. 13) gives introduction and discontinuation dates for every Apple display then supported.[1]
- The AppleVision 1710 chapter has a no-video flowchart and test-point drawing that the Service Source does not: high voltage 26 kV ± 1 kV; TRP1 pin A 3-4 V DC; diodes DP6 +180 V, DP7 +65 V, DP8 +12 V, DP9 +6.3 V and DP10 −11 V on the main deflection board; and an intermediate board check of 4-5 V at pin 14 of BM1 and about 4.5 V at pin 8 of BM4 (pp. 83-89).[1]
- Apple's CRT discharge procedure clips the discharge tool to the metal part of the bezel, warning that discharging elsewhere will damage the logic board, and leaves a clip lead from the bezel to the anode aperture to drain any charge that builds up again (p. 3).[1]
What it does not contain
[edit | edit source]No schematics and no component values. Like the Service Source volumes it treats boards as replaceable modules. The scan is the Archive's reduced-size edition; fine print in some fold-outs is hard to read, and the full-resolution scan (about 119 MB) remains on archive.org.[1]
