Apple Studio Display 17 Documentation

From RetroTechCollection

Documents for the Apple Studio Display 17, the 17-inch CRT Studio Displays of 1999 and 2000. Apple's Service Source for the 1999 VGA models is described at Studio Display (17" CRT, 16" viewable image size) Service Source.

Chassis service manual (DA796)

[edit | edit source]

A 51-page service manual for the display's chassis, with no maker's name or cover. Its exploded-view parts list names the cabinet "DA796 (Apple)" in blue and in dawn grey, the replacement parts list is headed "Model: M6496, Date: 1998. 10. 25.", and the schematic is titled "DA796 [APPLE]", P/N 3854T17021A, dated 28 October 1998.[1] Its figures match Apple's: 27 kV at the anode, 180 V on the B+ supply and two focus controls on the flyback.[1][2]

What it does not contain

[edit | edit source]

It gives the maker's part numbers only, not Apple's service part numbers; for those use Apple's Service Source. The factory alignment steps need the maker's alignment program and adaptor.[1]

Studio Display (17" CRT, 16" VIS, ADC) Service Source

[edit | edit source]

Apple's 60-page Service Source for the 2000 ADC model, dated 11 March 2003.[7] Take Apart covers the monitor stand (a customer-installable part), rear housing, CRT shroud, discharging the CRT and removing the anode cap, the deflection board and mount assembly, the video cable, the CRT and the front bezel. Adjustments is the read-me for Apple's Mac-based "Cabernet" rework software, used with a CA100 colour analyser connected to the Mac's serial port, with procedures for cutoff, beam landing and calibration.[7] It has no symptom charts, parts list or schematic, and its CRT discharge step names tool 076-0392, the part number Apple's other display manuals give for the high-voltage probe.[7]
