AppleColor High-Resolution RGB Monitor Service Source
The AppleColor High-Res RGB Monitor volume of Apple's Service Source is a 126-page service manual for the 13-inch AppleColor High-Resolution RGB Monitor. It is an electronic PDF that Apple produced from FrameMaker files, distilled on 16 November 1995.[1] Apple's owner's guide for the monitor is hosted with it.
Contents
[edit | edit source]- Specifications (PDF pp. 3-7): characteristics, controls, physical and electrical, operating environment
- Troubleshooting (PDF pp. 9-20): symptom charts for no raster, geometry, synchronisation, video and miscellaneous faults
- Take Apart (PDF pp. 22-68): rear cover, EMI shield, CRT board (C board), video colour board, deflection board D Rev. A and Rev. B, power supply, fuses, contrast control board J, high-voltage capacitor, chassis, CRT assembly, LED
- Adjustments (PDF pp. 70-124): geometry and focus, video (cutoff and white balance), light meter set-up, convergence, geometric distortion, jitter correction
- Exploded View (PDF p. 126)
What it settles
[edit | edit source]- The two power-supply fuses are F101, 6.3 A 250 V, and F102, 3.15 A 250 V, and they are not interchangeable (Take Apart pp. 29-31).
- A no-raster fault that appears after a few minutes is cured on a Rev. A deflection board by replacing the separate high-voltage capacitor before the board (Troubleshooting p. 2).
- Cutoff is set by adjusting the three background controls for 140 V ± 2 V at the KR, KG and KB cathode pins of the CRT board, then setting the cutoff control on the H board (Adjustments pp. 11-16).
- White balance and sub-contrast target 24 foot-lamberts ± 3 on the brightest bar (Adjustments pp. 18-24).
- Vertical jitter on Rev. A deflection boards is fixed by adding C522 (0.022 µF) and C525 (0.047 µF) and resetting V-HOLD with a 330 µF capacitor clipped to IC501 pin 22 (Adjustments pp. 44-55).[1]
What this manual does not contain
[edit | edit source]No schematic, no component values apart from the two jitter-correction capacitors, no supply-rail voltages and no anode voltage. It refers to CRT safety and disposal instructions in a separate Bulletins/Safety section that is not part of this file.[1]
Owner's guide
[edit | edit source]AppleColor High-Resolution RGB Monitor Owner's Guide, hosted as File:AppleColor High-Resolution RGB Monitor Owners Guide.pdf, is the 11-page text-only PDF edition Apple made in 2001; the illustrations of the printed guide are not included. It covers installing a Macintosh Display Card (4•8 for 256 colours, 8•24 or 8•24 GC for 16.7 million), the height-adjustment bar, connecting the power and video cables, setting the number of colours, the brightness, contrast and degauss controls, troubleshooting, care and cleaning.[2]
