Printed page numbers from the guide's contents list; the PDF page number is the printed number plus six.[1]

  • Connecting the drive (p. 2): to a disk drive port, to a controller card, attaching a second drive, connecting more than two drives
  • Getting better acquainted (p. 7): disks, write-protecting, inserting and removing disks, care and handling of disks
  • Caring for your Apple 5.25 Drive (p. 13); If your Apple 5.25 Drive doesn't work (p. 14); service and support
  • Appendix A, Daisy-chain drive combinations (p. 15): chaining on the Apple IIGS and the scanning order

What it settles

[edit | edit source]
  • Plugging a 5.25-inch drive into a 3.5-inch controller card, or plugging or unplugging the drive with the computer on, can damage it (pp. 7 and 13, PDF pp. 13 and 19).
  • A non-Apple monitor close to the drive can cause read and write errors (p. 14, PDF p. 20).
  • On the Apple IIGS, chain up to four drives with the 3.5-inch drives first; the DuoDisk and the IIc External Drive go last; a DuoDisk with a serial number below 433754 needs its controller card in slot 6 to be chained; the Disk II cannot be chained (pp. 15-16, PDF pp. 21-22).
  • Specifications: 143K, one surface, 250 kbit/s, 299 rpm, 35 tracks at 48 tracks per inch, 10-40 °C, 2.17 kg, 162 × 72 × 207 mm (p. 18, PDF p. 24).
