Apple Astec Power Supplies Service Package
Apple's own service package for the Astec switch-mode power supplies fitted to the Apple II, Apple III and ProFile III, issued 6 August 1982 (originator: Larry Sovulewski).
What is in it
[edit | edit source]- Schematics and component layouts for the Astec AA11040 and AA11040/B (Apple II family), AA11190 (Apple III) and AA11770 / AA11770/A / AA11771 (ProFile III).
- Full component listings with Astec vendor numbers, and an Astec-to-Apple part number cross reference.
- Astec's "Notes on Power Supplies" explaining ripple, line regulation, load regulation, over-voltage crowbar protection and hold-up time as Astec specified them.
The component listings are what make this document worth having. For the Apple II supply they give the real mains-side values - a 0.1 uF class-X capacitor across the line, 47 uF 250 V primary reservoir capacitors, a 2.75 A fuse, a 260 VAC varistor and an inrush-limiting thermistor - rather than the figures that circulate in hobbyist recap lists.
