The Centris 660AV/Quadra 660AV volume of Apple's Service Source is a 97-page service manual covering the Macintosh Centris 660AV and its renamed successor, the Macintosh Quadra 660AV. The PDF's creation date is 23 October 1995.[1]

What it settles

Battery: with the top cover off, measure the lithium battery on the 10 V DC range, positive probe to the end marked "+" on the logic board. Replace it if it reads below 3.2 V.[3]

Error chords: for a one-part chord at startup, disconnect the SCSI data cable and hard drive power cable and reboot, then the floppy drive cable, then replace the logic board. A two-part chord means DRAM SIMMs first, then the logic board, and the DRAM SIMMs should then be verified on the replacement board.[4] An intermittent shutdown may be the thermal protection: clear the air vents and allow 30 to 40 minutes before moving on to the power cord, battery, power supply and logic board.[5] If sound from an external video source does not play, check that an audio cable runs to the sound input port: the S-video connection carries no sound.[6]

Upgrades: both models could be upgraded to a Power Macintosh 6100/60 or 6100/60AV.[7]

The exploded view gives service part numbers, including the logic board (661-1704), power supply (661-1688), NuBus adapter (661-1719), top cover (922-0545), speaker (922-0353) and internal chassis (922-0359).[8]

What this manual does not contain

It is module-level. There is no schematic, no component values or capacitor list, no supply-rail voltages or tolerances and no fuse rating; faults in the DSP and AV circuits end at "replace logic board".[1]
