The date in this page's title is wrong. The document's own first page reads NOVEMBER, 1990 against part number PN-400401-01. There is no May 1990 edition; the title here has been left alone only because other pages may reference it, and the document is November 1990.
The C64GS Tech Data is Commodore Electronics Limited's own 8-page technical data sheet for the Commodore 64 Games System — the cartridge-only, keyboard-less Commodore 64 sold in PAL territories in 1990.
It is a technical data sheet and illustrated parts breakdown, not a service manual.

What is on the sheets

- Microprocessor: 6510A, 1 MHz clock, compatible with 6502
- Memory: 64K · ROM: 20K standard, includes operating system
- Display: 40 columns × 25 lines of text; 16 background, border and character colours; text and high-resolution graphics; 320 × 200 pixels
- Sprites: 8 independent, 24 × 21 pixels, up to 4 colours each, independently expandable horizontally and vertically
- Sound: 6581 Sound Interface Device, 3 independent tone generators
- Ports: ROM cartridge port, 2 joystick ports
- Side panel: power connector — uses the standard C64 power supply; power switch; two standard DB9 joystick ports
- Top: cartridge slot
- Rear: a modulator switch to change the audio carrier between 6 MHz (UK) and 5.5 MHz (continental Europe); RF output to a PAL television; audio/video output on the C64-style 8-pin DIN for luma, chroma and audio to a PAL monitor

What this document settles
[edit | edit source]- The C64GS takes the ordinary C64 power supply. Commodore says so in the specifications, so the standard C64 supply cautions apply to it unchanged.
- It is a 240 V, 50 Hz PAL machine, with a user-accessible modulator switch for the UK versus continental audio carrier — a genuine "not a fault" if the sound is missing on one standard and present on the other.
- A main assembly part number exists for NTSC (363404-01) as well as PAL (363404-02), even though the machine was sold in PAL territories.
- The electronics are the C64's: 6510A, 6581 SID, 64K RAM, 20K ROM.

- No board revision information. It does not say which C64 board assembly the C64GS uses.
