Macintosh IIsi Service Source
The Macintosh IIsi volume of Apple's Service Source is a 64-page module-level service manual for the Macintosh IIsi. The file is Apple's own PDF, produced from FrameMaker and distilled on 1 November 1995, not a scan.

What it settles
[edit | edit source]| Item | As printed |
|---|---|
| CPU | Motorola 68030 at 20 MHz; 256-byte instruction and data caches; burst-mode RAM access; built-in MMU (p. 5) |
| Coprocessor | Motorola 68882 FPU at 20 MHz, "included on the optional adapter card" (p. 5) |
| RAM and ROM | 2 MB, expandable to 17 MB; 512K ROM; 256 bytes of PRAM (p. 6) |
| Drives | Internal 1.4 MB floppy; internal 40 MB hard drive, optional 80 MB (p. 7) |
| Expansion | One slot for either a NuBus or 030 direct-slot card, 15 W maximum (p. 8) |
| Electrical | 100-240 V AC, automatically configured; 50-60 Hz; 100 W maximum, not including the monitor (p. 11) |
| Physical | 4.0 × 12.4 × 14.9 in (10 × 31 × 37.2 cm); 10 lb (4.5 kg) (p. 12) |
| Battery | Measure on the 10 V DC range; replace below 3.0 V (p. 59) |
The symptom charts include two IIsi-specific entries: a machine that restarts itself has its rear power switch locked, and a completely dark machine may be overloaded by a NuBus card that "draws more than 45 watts" (pp. 17, 27). The take-apart chapter warns against touching logic board connectors J19 and J20, because skin oil harms them, and notes that the speaker's metal fingers must touch the contacts under the logic board on reassembly (pp. 44, 48).
The exploded view gives module part numbers: top case 630-5804, fan assembly 810-6030, power supply 661-1616, adapter card and bracket 815-6246, logic board 661-1615, floppy drive 661-0474, 40 MB hard drive 661-0216, bottom case 810-6032 and speaker/LED assembly 810-6031, with the drive cables and carriers (p. 64).
What it does not contain
[edit | edit source]There are no schematics, component values or capacitor lists, no Adjustments chapter, and no rail voltages or tolerances. The expansion-slot budget on p. 8 is printed as "+5 V 2.0 A, +12 V 175 A, -12 V 150 A"; within 15 W the last two can only be milliamps. The developer note, Macintosh IIsi Developer Note, covers the board-level design: memory banks, video, the power-control microcontroller and the slot adapters.
