The Macintosh Performa 588CD is the consumer variant of the Macintosh LC 580, sold exclusively in Europe and Asia starting April 1, 1995.[1] In Japan, the 588CD shipped with KanjiTalk 7.5 for Japanese language support. The model shares its hardware platform with the Macintosh Performa 580CD but was marketed in different regions.
Hardware Overview
[edit | edit source]The Performa 588CD shares its logic board with the Macintosh LC 580 and uses the same LC 630-derived architecture:
- Processor: Motorola 68LC040 at 33 MHz (no FPU)
- RAM: 4 MB soldered on-board plus 4 MB SIMM (8 MB total), expandable to 52 MB
- Storage: 500 MB IDE hard drive
- Display: 14" shadow mask CRT (not Sony Trinitron) at 640×480
- Expansion: LC PDS slot, communications slot, video I/O slot
