Power Macintosh/Performa 5260, 5280 Series Service Source
The Power Macintosh/Performa 5260, 5280 Series volume of Apple's Service Source is a 216-page service manual. Its cover lists the Power Macintosh 5260/100 and 5260/120 and the international Performa 5260/120 and 5280.[1] Apple notes that the Performa 5260/120 was sold in Canada and Australia, the Performa 5280 in Japan and the Power Macintosh 5260/120 in the United States and Canada.[1] The 5200/5300 volume excludes these models on its cover, so this is the manual for them. The PDF was produced in FrameMaker and is dated 25 April 1997 in its metadata.
Like other Service Source volumes it is a module-level manual: specifications, symptom charts, take-apart procedures, CRT and power-supply adjustments and an exploded view with Apple part numbers. It has no schematics and no component values.

| Dimensions | 445 x 406 x 383 mm (17.5 x 16 x 15.1 in), H x W x D; weight printed as "17 lb. / 19 lb. (21.15 kg)", which do not agree[8] |
| Clock battery | Replace if below 3.0 V, measured with the I/O door, logic board and battery removed[9] |
The Specifications chapter also prints monitor timings for 640x480 at 60 Hz and 66.67 Hz and for 800x600 at 60 Hz and 72 Hz, and the phosphor CIE coordinates (red x 0.643, y 0.324; green 0.301, 0.606; blue 0.142, 0.056). The "60 Hz" 640x480 table repeats the 66.67 Hz figures (30.24 MHz dot clock, 35.000 kHz line rate).[6]

What it settles
[edit | edit source]- The power-supply adjustment must be made whenever the analog board or power supply has been removed: with the meter's ground lead on the chassis and the other lead on pin 3 of connector P805 on the power supply, R828 is set for 110 V DC. (The figure labels pin 1 of P805 to locate the connector.)[10]
- The 5260/5280 chassis uses different adjustment controls from the 5200/5300 and 5400/5500: horizontal size is R440 (raster width 240 mm ± 2 mm), vertical size R327 (185 mm ± 2 mm), and the video adjustments use bias controls R910, R940 and R970 (red, green, blue), drive controls R501, R531 and R561 (red, green, blue) and sub-brightness R500 (set for 25 foot-lamberts on a photometer). There is no 29.5 V high-voltage procedure in this volume; the one in the 5200/5300 volume is marked "not for 5260, 5280".[11]
- The Cuda chip reset is a switch on the logic board, pressed with a plastic tool after removing the power cord, I/O door and logic board.[12]
What it does not contain
[edit | edit source]No schematics, no board-level parts lists and no component values. The exploded view gives module and hardware part numbers only. Unlike the 5200/5300 volume, it has no REA Procedures chapter.
