Power Macintosh 7200 Series/WS 7250 Service Source

From RetroTechCollection

The Power Macintosh 7200 Series/WS 7250 Service Source is Apple's 158-page service manual for the Power Macintosh 7200/75, 7200/90, 7200/120 and Workgroup Server 7250/120. The PDF was created on 22 March 1996. Page numbers below are PDF pages.

It is module-level: Apple's specifications, symptom charts, take-apart procedures, upgrade procedures and an exploded view with part numbers. It has no schematics and no component values.

Notable content

[edit | edit source]

The Electrical page says the supply is "automatically configured", then adds: "the power supply has two voltage settings: 115V and 230 V. The power supply must be set to 115V in the U.S." (p. 39). Check the setting on any machine of unknown history.

The Basics chapter describes the Cuda microcontroller, which handles soft power, resets, PRAM, ADB and the clock, and its reset button (p. 17), and the logic board reset: unplug the computer, remove the battery, disconnect the power supply cable from the logic board, press the Power On button and wait at least 10 minutes (pp. 18–19). The Troubleshooting chapter starts with cleaning residue from PCI card edge connectors with a pencil eraser (p. 44). On some 90 and 120 MHz machines a fan plugs into the logic board at J70 and must be unplugged when the internal chassis is swung open to reach the battery (pp. 93, 95).

What this manual does not contain

[edit | edit source]
  • No schematic, no parts list below module level, no component values.
  • No Adjustments chapter, no rail voltages and no battery voltage threshold; the battery appears only in Take Apart and in the logic board reset.
