Power Macintosh 8200 and 8500 Series/WS 8550 Service Source
The Power Macintosh 8200 and 8500 Series/WS 8550 Service Source is Apple's 150-page service manual for the Power Macintosh 8200 series (Europe only), the Power Macintosh 8500 series and the Workgroup Server 8550 series. The PDF was created on 26 March 1996. Page numbers below are PDF pages.
It is module-level: Apple's specifications, symptom charts, take-apart procedures, upgrade procedures and an exploded view with part numbers. It has no schematics and no component values.

Notable content
[edit | edit source]The Overview says all three families share the form factor of the Power Macintosh 8100 (p. 3). The Europe-only 8200 has its 601 processor on the logic board, three PCI slots, built-in AAUI and 10BASE-T Ethernet and 1 MB of soldered VRAM (pp. 3–4). The 8500 and WS 8550 have a removable 604 processor card, and the 8500 has composite and S-video input and output as standard (pp. 5–6). The Basics chapter also covers the Cuda chip, the logic board reset and Fast SCSI (pp. 23–26).
The manual gives two figures for the 8200's standard memory: 16 MB in the Overview (p. 4) and 8 MB or 16 MB in the Specifications (p. 41).
What this manual does not contain
[edit | edit source]- No schematic, no parts list below module level, no component values.
- No Adjustments chapter and no Additional Procedures chapter, so there is no battery verification procedure or battery voltage threshold. The battery appears in the logic board reset (p. 25).
