The LaserWriter 10/600 A3+ volume of Apple's Service Source is a 351-page service manual. Its title page states: "This printer is an Asia-only product." The body is Fuji Xerox's standard engine service manual for the printer, prepared for Fuji Xerox's OEM customers, and it follows Fuji Xerox's eight-section layout.[1] The PDF's creation-date field reads 1956, which is wrong; its modification date is 13 September 1996. Pages are numbered by section (1-1, 2-1 and so on).

What it settles

[edit | edit source]

Error and status codes are shown on the diagnostic tool's LCD. They include U6 (non-volatile ROM fault), U2 (ROS assembly), U4 (fuser), UF (fan), E5 (pop-up cover open), E4 (exit jam), E3 (registration jam), E2 and E1 (misfeed jams), J3 (EP cartridge missing or wrong), and C-codes for paper and cassette conditions. Each U and E code has its own fault isolation procedure in Section 7.[3]

Fuser temperatures (with NV code 9 set to 7): standby 160 °C, running 163 °C, high-trouble cut-out about 201 °C, low-trouble about 125 °C.[4] The wiring diagrams in Section 6 show the connections between parts in nine blocks, with the DC voltages to expect at each connector.[5]

Safety, from Section 1: the power switch and inlet section of the LVPS assembly stays live when the printer is switched off. Remove the EP cartridge before pressing the interlock switch by hand, and never close the interlock and CRU switches together. Let the fuser cool before working on it.[6]

What this manual does not contain

[edit | edit source]

The parts lists give part names and plate/item references but no part numbers, and there is no circuit schematic of the boards: the wiring diagrams show connections between parts, not the circuits on each board.[7]
