The '''Atari STe 520/1040 Computer Field Service Manual''' is Atari Corporation's service manual for the [[Atari 520STE]] and [[Atari 1040STE]], part number C302481-001 Rev A, August 1991. The hosted file is not a scan of Atari's printing. Its cover reads "Updated by jer/eightbitter, May 2017": the text and parts list have been retyped, with some OCR errors left in part numbers (for example "0398739-001" for the DMA controller C398739-001), and the section 9 schematics are redrawn. It has 81 pages with a text layer; the printed page numbers run five behind the PDF page numbers.

Section 1.3 gives the supply figures: +5 V and +12 V, 2 A fuse, set to 5.1 V; rated 3 A at +5 V and 0.9 A at +12 V, 33.5 W maximum input; typical demand 1.75 A at +5 V and 86 mA at +12 V, rising to 2.2 A and 90 mA during disk access. It notes that the supply has overcurrent protection, so a blown fuse usually means a catastrophic failure such as a shorted primary. Section 1.4 explains that the negative supplies are made on the main board by two TL497 switching regulators: U204 for the RS-232 line drivers (normally ±12 V) and U205 for the −5 V audio supply.
Section 7 names the ICs by position (U100 68000, U101 BLiTTER, U102 and U103 TOS 1.62 ROMs, U200 and U201 6850 ACIAs, U202 YM2149, U203 68901 MFP, U204 and U205 TL497A, U300 DMA controller, U301 1772, U400 GSTMCU, U401 Shifter, U600–U603 SIMM sockets) and lists the electrolytic capacitors with value, voltage and location, including the 15 µF tantalums at C420, C424 and C426 and the 4700 µF part at C103.

The Atari STe 520/1040 Computer Field Service Manual is Atari Corporation's service manual for the Atari 520STE and Atari 1040STE, part number C302481-001 Rev A, August 1991. What it settles

[edit | edit source]

What this manual does not contain

[edit | edit source]
  • Atari's original schematics. The schematics in section 9 are 2017 redrawings; the supply sheet is headed as a Mitsumi SR98 unit, CA070086-002, which is not the US supply assembly (CA070059-003) named in the parts list.
  • A parts list for the power supply, which appears in section 7 only as the single assembly CA070059-003, "ASSY PSU 110V STE USA/CAN".
  • Parts lists for non-US machines or for the 520STE assembly; the list is for the US 1040STE.
  • Coverage of the SM124 and SC1224 monitors, or of the ST, STF, STFM, Mega ST, Mega STE and TT. For the earlier machines see Atari 520ST and 1040ST Computer Field Service Manual.

Atari's notice on PDF page 5 states that part numbers are for reference only and that only parts on the then-current dealer parts lists were available.
