* A summary table for '''PS/2 Models 53 to 57''' — CPU and speed, L2 cache, upgradability, standard and maximum memory, video, diskette and disk (standard to maximum, internal, ms seek, interface), slots and bays, memory features and availability dates.

* Per-model pages for the '''Model 53 (9553)''' and '''53LS (9553 LAN Station)''', both 486SLC2.
It is a sales and configuration reference. There are no FRU numbers, removal procedures, symptom-to-FRU index, supply voltages, schematics or component values. It covers only the PS/2 models of 1992 onwards listed above, not the Models 25 to 95 of 1987 to 1991.
* Per-model pages for the '''Model 56 (9556)''', '''56LS (9556 LAN Station)''', '''57 (9557)''' and '''M57 (9557 Multimedia)''', all 486SLC3.

Each entry gives the full type-model number, which is how you confirm what a machine actually is from its label rather than its badge.

== What it does not contain ==

'''Not a service document in any sense.''' No FRU numbers, no removals, no symptom-to-FRU index, no rail voltages, no schematic and no component values. It also covers only the 1992–1995 machines — nothing about the Models 25, 30, 50, 55, 60, 70, 80, 90 or 95 that the rest of this wiki's PS/2 material is about.

Its usefulness is narrow and real: identifying a late PS/2 from its type-model number and knowing what shipped in it.

The file behind this page is IBM PC Institute's Personal Systems Reference: IBM PS/2, 1992 to 1995 – withdrawn, an 8-page PSREF book of configuration tables for the last PS/2 models, compiled by Roger Dodson of IBM. The individual tables are dated between February 1995 and January 1996. Despite the title "IBM PS2 Book", it is not a technical reference or service manual.

Contents

  • p. 1: cover.

  • p. 4: Models 56 (9556), 56LS (9556 LAN Station), 57 (9557) and M57 (9557 Multimedia), 486SLC3; all withdrawn effective June 1995.
  • p. 5: summary table of the withdrawn Models 76 and 77, including the 76i, 76s, 77i and 77s.
  • p. 6: Models 76i, 76s, 77i and 77s (9576, 9577), available June 1994 and withdrawn effective 25 July 1995.
  • p. 7: PS/2 E (9533), the energy-efficient 486SLC2 desktop with four PCMCIA slots.
  • p. 8: Ultimedia M57 SLC2 and M77 models, and the 1992-1993 models of the 56 SLC2, 57 SLC2, 76 and 77.

Each table gives the full type-model number, which identifies a machine from its label.
