The IBM PS/2 Model 30 286 Guide to Operations, First Edition (September 1988), is the 69-page user setup and operation book that shipped with the PS/2 Model 30 286 (8530-E series). It is not a service manual.
What it contains
[edit | edit source]- Section 1, Getting Started — unpacking and installing the system, removing the diskette drive shipping inserts, connecting the keyboard, setting the voltage selector switch, connecting the display and the mains lead, and the first power-on.
- Using the Starter Diskette — the learning program, setting the date and time, copying the Starter Diskette and setting the system configuration.
- Section 3, Operating Your System and the user-level problem determination list.
What it does not contain

What it settles
[edit | edit source]The voltage selector switch. IBM's instruction is explicit and is the one to follow before powering on an imported machine: if the local supply is 90–137 V, slide the switch right, to 115 V (the United States and Canada, 100–125 V, use this setting); if the local supply is 180–265 V, slide it left, to 230 V. Getting this wrong on a machine bought abroad is one of the commonest ways to destroy a working supply.
