Maintenance Information Technologies was a third-party publisher of service schematics for the independent repair trade in the late 1980s and early 1990s. IBM itself never published a PS/2 schematic.

'''No text layer.''' These are scanned drawings. `pdftotext` returns almost nothing and OCR returns garbled fragments, so read them as page images, not as text.

'''No parts list, no bill of materials, no board silkscreen map and no power distribution sheet.''' The component values that are shown are the ones drawn on the signal circuits themselves. Bulk electrolytics and the planar decoupling do not appear, so these sheets will '''not''' give you a recapping list — but they will give you the value of a specific resistor or small capacitor in a circuit you are tracing, which is more than any IBM publication does.

There is no revision history and no statement of which planar revision a Model 30 or Model 50 sheet was drawn from.

Together with the [[IBM PS2 Model 80 Technical Reference (April 1987)|April 1987 technical reference]], this set gives the Model 80 both ends of the documentation range that IBM machines usually lack: IBM's own power supply and interface specification, and a third-party drawing with designators and values on it. The schematics apply to '''planar 90X9152-01''' specifically.

The PS/2 Model 80 schematic set is twenty sheets of third-party logic drawings of the PS/2 Model 80 (8580) system board. Every title block reads "Maintenance Information Technologies", "PS/2 80", "90X9152-01" and "COPYRIGHT APPLIED FOR", with sheet number "n OF 20", revision 1 and date 10/16/91. The notice beside the title block says the content was sold for the buyer's unlimited use and must not be copied for republication or distribution outside the buyer's company, and gives no warranty of accuracy. The scan is image-only.

The drawings are of the board marked 90X9152-01. Check the number on the board in hand before relying on a designator.

1 Bus 11 Real Time Clock
2 CPU 12 DMA I/F
3 Video I/F 13 Bus Connectors A
4 Memory 14 Bus Connectors B
5 Clocks 15 I/O Control

9 Keyboard I/F 19 PALs C
10 Disk I/F 20 PALs C (continued)

The drawings carry designators and values for the parts on each circuit. Sheet 11, for example, has the MC146818A real-time clock with its 32.768 kHz crystal and the LM386 audio amplifier with its capacitors. The four PAL sheets show the programmable logic devices as connection diagrams with their pin signals; they do not give the PAL equations.

What this document does not contain

[edit | edit source]

There is no parts list, bill of materials, board layout or power-distribution sheet, so the set is not a complete capacitor list, and there are no PAL programming equations.
