Amstrad GX4000 Service Manual: Difference between revisions

From RetroTechCollection
MISLABELLED DOCUMENT: this file is not a GX4000 service manual, it is the combined 464 Plus/6128 Plus/GX4000/MM12/CM14 manual scanned at higher detail (95pp). Said so plainly, gave the full contents, explained which of the two scans to use for what, and recorded the separate France GX4000 board variant
Copyedit; point to the full contents on the 51-page copy; list the GX4000 pages; drop the truncated-file narration

'''The file held under this title is not a GX4000-only manual.''' It is Amstrad plc's combined '''464 PLUS / 6128 PLUS / GX4000 / MM 12 / CM 14 Service Manual''' — same printed cover, same contents list — scanned at higher detail as '''95 PDF pages''', with the large schematics and parts lists split across several images each. The GX4000 occupies printed pages 23 to 36 of it.
The file on this page is Amstrad plc's combined '''464 PLUS / 6128 PLUS / GX4000 / MM 12 / CM 14 Service Manual''', not a manual for the GX4000 alone. It has the same cover and contents as the copy at [[Amstrad 464 Plus / 6128 Plus / GX4000 Service Manual]], but is a different scan: 95 PDF pages, with the large schematics and parts lists split across several images each, which makes component values easier to read. There is no text layer.

The same document is also hosted here, in a 51-page scan, at '''[[Amstrad 464 Plus / 6128 Plus / GX4000 Service Manual]]'''.

'''Which copy to use.''' This 95-page scan renders the schematics and parts lists larger and is the better one for reading component values off. The 51-page scan is smaller to download and keeps each printed page on one image. Both are complete.

Printed pages 23–36 cover the console: electrical adjustment, main PCB top and bottom views, the gate array / output interface, CPU / connection interface and video conversion / memory schematics, '''the power regulator schematic''', the RGB convertor schematic, the cabinet exploded view and parts list, '''then the entire set again for the France board''' — separate top and bottom views, a separate power regulator schematic and a separate output interface schematic — and finally the '''GX4000 electrical parts list''' with value, circuit reference and Amstrad part number for every component.
* Technical specification and electrical adjustment (RF modulator coil) – 23
* Main PCB top view 24 and bottom view 25
* Gate array/output interface schematic 26, CPU/connection interface schematic 27, video conversion/memory schematic 28
* Power regulator schematic 29, RGB convertor schematic 30
* Cabinet exploded view and parts list 31
* Main PCB (France) top view 32 and bottom view 33, power regulator schematic (France) 34, output interface schematic (France) 35
* Electrical parts list 36

The two board variants are the thing to take away: '''check which GX4000 board is in front of you before comparing it against a regulator drawing.'''
The France board has its own regulator and output interface drawings, so check which board is fitted before comparing it with the schematic on page 29 or 35.

The file on this page is Amstrad plc's combined 464 PLUS / 6128 PLUS / GX4000 / MM 12 / CM 14 Service Manual, not a manual for the GX4000 alone. It has the same cover and contents as the copy at Amstrad 464 Plus / 6128 Plus / GX4000 Service Manual, but is a different scan: 95 PDF pages, with the large schematics and parts lists split across several images each, which makes component values easier to read. There is no text layer.

Contents

The full contents list, with printed page numbers, is on Amstrad 464 Plus / 6128 Plus / GX4000 Service Manual. The GX4000 section is printed pages 23–36:

  • Technical specification and electrical adjustment (RF modulator coil) – 23
  • Main PCB top view 24 and bottom view 25
  • Gate array/output interface schematic 26, CPU/connection interface schematic 27, video conversion/memory schematic 28
  • Power regulator schematic 29, RGB convertor schematic 30
  • Cabinet exploded view and parts list 31
  • Main PCB (France) top view 32 and bottom view 33, power regulator schematic (France) 34, output interface schematic (France) 35
  • Electrical parts list 36

The France board has its own regulator and output interface drawings, so check which board is fitted before comparing it with the schematic on page 29 or 35.

What this manual does not contain

  • No fault-finding flowcharts. Amstrad's note to engineers on page 2 refers to the RP11 diagnostic ROM cartridge and its manual instead.
  • No coverage of the original CPC 464, 664 or 6128.
  • No text layer.
