The Power Macintosh 5400 is an all-in-one Macintosh computer based on the Alchemy architecture, released on April 13, 1996.[1] It features a PowerPC 603e processor running at 120 MHz.

This model was sold only to the education market in North America. The consumer version, the Performa 5400CD, was sold worldwide.

Hardware Overview

Processor and Memory

The Power Macintosh 5400 uses a PowerPC 603e processor at 120 MHz with a 40 MHz system bus. It has 32K of L1 cache and supports optional 256K L2 cache.

RAM uses 168-pin DIMMs at 70 ns minimum speed. The system has 8 MB of onboard RAM and 2 DIMM slots, supporting up to 136 MB total. 1 MB of system RAM is dedicated to video function.

Storage

The system includes a 1.6 GB IDE hard drive and either a 4X or 8X CD-ROM drive. A 1.44 MB floppy drive is standard.

Display

The built-in 15" shadow mask CRT supports 640×480 at 16-bit, or 800×600 and 832×624 at 8-bit. Display mirroring to an external monitor is supported at up to 832×624.

Expansion

The system has one PCI slot, plus Comm, TV, and video input/output expansion slots.

Networking

10Base-T Ethernet is standard.
