Atari SC1224 Documentation
Atari documentation for the Atari SC1224 colour monitor: the service manual for the Goldstar-built set on the CA-3 chassis, a separate scan of the CA-3 schematic and troubleshooting charts, the field service manual for the JVC-built Version 2, and Atari's May 1986 summary specification for its ST monitors. No service documentation for the Samsung-built SC1224 has been found.
SC1224 RGB Color Monitor Service Manual, chassis CA-3
editAtari's service manual for the SC1224 on the CA-3 chassis. The cover reads "Atari, Chassis No.: CA-3, SC1224 RGB Color Monitor, Service Manual" and carries no document number or date. The scan has 22 PDF pages, mostly two-page spreads, with printed page numbers up to 32.[1] Its dimensions and weight match those atari-computermuseum.de gives for the Goldstar set.[2]

What this manual does not contain
edit- A procedure for opening the case or removing the chassis.
- Any coverage of the JVC Version 2 or the Samsung set.
- The SC1224's own pages that would carry the printed numbers 3, 4, 29 and 30; the scan has the monochrome monitor's pages in those places.
- Correct values for every part. The parts list prints C703 as 100 µF where the schematic and the part number give 1000 µF, gives C961, C963 and C965 in pF where they are 1000 µF, 1000 µF and 100 µF electrolytics, and numbers the LA7830 vertical output IC as IC801 where the schematic and the theory section call it IC601.[1][3]

CA-3 chassis schematic and troubleshooting charts
editA 12-page scan titled "Atari SC1224 Schematic (1986)". PDF page 1 is the "CA-3 Chassis Schematic Diagram", P/N 484-257A, with the waveforms WF1 to WF17 along the bottom; it is a cleaner copy than the one in the service manual scan and is the source for the power board values. PDF pages 2 to 12 repeat the timing chart and the troubleshooting charts A, K, B, C, C-1, D, E, F, G with H, and I with J from the service manual.[3] The schematic labels the AC input "100-264V 47-63Hz" and the fuse F901 "3.15AT 250V"; the outputs are 115 V, 12 V and 14 V.[3]
It has no parts list and no adjustment procedures.

SC1224 Version 2 Field Service Manual
editAtari Corporation's SC1224 Version 2 Field Service Manual, document C070433, dated February 1986, 34 pages, for the 120 V set on the MA-1018A board set.[4] atari-computermuseum.de identifies the Version 2 as the JVC-built SC1224, and its dimensions and weight match those in the manual; the manual's last page carries the imprint "Printed in Japan".[2][4] The hosted copy was recompressed to 200 dpi; the Internet Archive scan is 300 dpi and 121 MB.

What this manual does not contain
edit- Values for standard resistors and capacitors in the parts list. Page 11 says they are omitted and gives only the part-number scheme; their values are on the schematic and the circuit pages.
- A 220 V or 240 V version. The specification is 120 V AC, 50/60 Hz.
- Agreement everywhere between the parts list and the schematic: C1151, C1251 and C1351 (4.7 µF in the list, 3.3 µF on the schematic), C1311 (10 µF and 4.7 µF), C1402 (tantalum 2.2 µF 16 V and electrolytic 2.2 µF 50 V) and C1427 (16 V and 25 V) differ. The regulator IC1901 is printed STR30125-A on the schematic and STR3125-A on the power circuit page.[4]

Atari Monitor Summary Specifications, May 1986
editA six-page Atari Corp. memo of 14 May 1986 from Tom Brightman, copied to Shiraz Shivji, sending "summary specifications for Atari monitors for the ST product line" for review. Page 2 is a table for the SM124, SC1224 and SC1425; pages 3 and 4 are SM124 and SC1224 timing charts; page 5 is the pin assignment of the 13-pin DIN connector; page 6 is an SC1425 timing chart.[5] The memo asks for a connector specification for the "SC1425 EST" monitor. The SC1425 in this table is a 14-inch 640 × 480 monitor at 31.5 kHz, which is not the SC1425 Atari sold from 1988 (see Atari SC1425).[5][6]
