Battery Replacement Instructions (073-0564)

[edit | edit source]

The Power Mac G4 / Macintosh Server G4 Battery Replacement Instructions are Apple's four-page customer sheet, document 073-0564 Rev. B, for replacing the logic board battery in a tower Power Mac G4 or Macintosh Server G4.

Contents

[edit | edit source]
  • Tools Required: none, though a flat-blade screwdriver helps to spread the holder's tabs
  • Opening the Computer: shut down, wait five minutes, ground yourself on the PCI access covers, unplug, lift the latch on the right side access panel and lower it flat. If lights glow on the logic board, the computer has not been shut down
  • Replacing the Battery: note the polarity, pull the battery out, fit the new one with its + and − matching the holder. Apple warns that a battery fitted the wrong way round may explode, and to use only the battery supplied
  • Closing the Computer, and Resetting Date and Time

What it does not contain

[edit | edit source]

The sheet does not give the battery's voltage, chemistry or part number. Apple's specification pages give 3.6 V lithium, and the Service Source exploded views give part 922-4028 for every tower model from the PCI Graphics to the QuickSilver 2002.
