Apple AudioVision 14 Display Service Source
The Apple AudioVision 14 Display volume of Apple's Service Source is a 121-page service manual for the AudioVision 14 Display, Apple's 14-inch Trinitron monitor with built-in stereo speakers, a microphone and front-panel sound controls. The PDF was produced in FrameMaker and distilled on 15 December 1995.[1]

Contents
[edit | edit source]- Basics: Self-Threading Screws (PDF pp. 3-4). The chassis uses both machine screws and self-threading screws; Apple says not to overtighten the self-threading ones and to back each off slightly before tightening to be sure it is in its existing thread.
- Specifications: Characteristics, Controls, Electrical, Physical, Environmental (PDF pp. 6-12)
- Troubleshooting: General; symptom charts for No Raster, Geometry, Synchronization, Video, Audio and Miscellaneous (PDF pp. 14-26)
- Take Apart: Rear Cover, Audio Enclosure and Speakers, Video Cable and Strain Relief, Main Board, On/Off Switch Assembly, Monitor Stand, Base Assembly, Front Panel Controls and LEDs, CRT Assembly, Microphone Assembly, Bezel, Fuse (PDF pp. 28-80)
- Adjustments: Geometry, Video, Light Meter Setup, Convergence, Geometric Distortion (PDF pp. 82-119). The adjustments use test patterns from Apple's Display Service Utility and are to be made only after a 15-minute warm-up.[3]
- Exploded View with part numbers (PDF pp. 120-121)
What it settles
[edit | edit source]The exploded view gives the service part numbers, including the fuse (922-0502, 4.0 A 250 V), the main deflection board (661-1699; 661-0169 for Rev. B), the CRT assembly (661-1666), the audio enclosure with sound board (922-0386), the microphone assembly (922-0389), the speakers (922-0387), the video cable (922-0388) and the AudioVision adapter cable (922-0419).[4] The fuse is on the main board and is prised out with a small screwdriver after the CRT has been discharged and the anode cap removed.[5]
The symptom charts list two things that are not faults. A thin horizontal line about one-third of the way up the picture is the aperture grille's support wire, common to all Trinitron-type displays under 15 inches, and cannot be adjusted out. With some Logitech mice the mouse has no effect while keyboard input is accepted; Apple says the display is not at fault and should not be replaced.[6] The Audio chart deals only with settings: mono or stereo output, microphone on or off, mute, volume and the sound input and output source.[7]
What this manual does not contain
[edit | edit source]It is a module-level manual. The hardware cures in the symptom charts are to replace the main board or the CRT, and there is no parts list below module level, no schematic, no component values and no audio circuit data.[1]
