Error indications and the battery

[edit | edit source]

The printer has three LEDs (Power, Error, On Line). Apple's error chart lists ten states, four of them for the optional NiCad battery: the Power light blinking once a second means the battery is charging; blinking every half second means the battery is low; five beeps with the Power light blinking every half second means the battery is empty, after which the printer beeps again after five minutes and switches itself off; and five beeps with two lights blinking alternately means a battery error. For a battery error Apple's procedure is to recharge the battery two or three times, then replace the battery, then the printer. When a printer running on battery shows no lights or no movement, Apple's first step is to check that the battery is known-good and charged.[1]

Apple gives no cell count, capacity or replace-below voltage for the pack. To clean clogged nozzles, the purge procedure is started by holding the FWD ADJ and REV ADJ buttons while pressing Power.[1]
