The '''Performa 500 Series''' volume of Apple's ''Service Source'' is a 161-page service manual for the Macintosh Performa 550, 560, 575, 577 and 578, the all-in-one Performas with a 14-inch Trinitron display in the LC 520 case. The PDF was produced in FrameMaker and is dated 5 December 1995.

''Service Source'' volumes are '''module-level''' documents. They give Apple's own specifications, symptom charts, take-apart procedures and module part numbers, but they do '''not''' carry schematics, board-level parts lists or component values, so they cannot be used to source a capacitor table. Where a figure below is quoted, it is quoted as Apple printed it.
Like other ''Service Source'' volumes, it works at module level: specifications, symptom charts, take-apart procedures, the processor upgrade, the battery test, display adjustments and an exploded view with module part numbers.

Apple's '''Light Meter Setup''' is the step most often skipped: the video and convergence adjustments that follow it are meaningless without it, and Apple specifies the meter and lens (Model L-248) to be used.
* The Macintosh Processor Upgrade adds a PowerPC 601 card that can switch between the 601 and the customer's 68LC040. For the Performa 520, 550 and 560 the upgrade consists of an LC 575 logic board, the upgrade card, a new rear panel and a 575 ID label (Upgrades pp. 1–3, PDF pp. 93–95).
* Raster size: height 7 in ± 1/8 in (176 mm ± 2 mm), width 9¼ in ± 1/8 in (235 mm ± 2 mm); white balance sets the sub-contrast control for 33 ± 3 foot-lamberts (Adjustments, Geometry and Video). These are the same targets as the [[Macintosh TV Service Source|Macintosh TV]]'s.
* Module part numbers, including the CRT (661-1666; 661-1667 Australia, 661-1668 Europe) and analog board 661-0192 (Exploded View).

The Performa 500 Series volume of Apple's Service Source is a 161-page service manual for the Macintosh Performa 550, 560, 575, 577 and 578, the all-in-one Performas with a 14-inch Trinitron display in the LC 520 case. The PDF was produced in FrameMaker and is dated 5 December 1995.

Like other Service Source volumes, it works at module level: specifications, symptom charts, take-apart procedures, the processor upgrade, the battery test, display adjustments and an exploded view with module part numbers.

What it settles

[edit | edit source]
  • The Macintosh Processor Upgrade adds a PowerPC 601 card that can switch between the 601 and the customer's 68LC040. For the Performa 520, 550 and 560 the upgrade consists of an LC 575 logic board, the upgrade card, a new rear panel and a 575 ID label (Upgrades pp. 1–3, PDF pp. 93–95).
  • Raster size: height 7 in ± 1/8 in (176 mm ± 2 mm), width 9¼ in ± 1/8 in (235 mm ± 2 mm); white balance sets the sub-contrast control for 33 ± 3 foot-lamberts (Adjustments, Geometry and Video). These are the same targets as the Macintosh TV's.
  • Module part numbers, including the CRT (661-1666; 661-1667 Australia, 661-1668 Europe) and analog board 661-0192 (Exploded View).

What this manual does not contain

[edit | edit source]
  • No schematic and no component-level parts list or values; the analog board is a module.
  • No power supply rail voltages and no voltage adjustment. The Adjustments chapter covers geometry, video, the light meter, convergence, geometric distortion and the yoke.
