MacWorks — The Macintosh Environment for the Lisa System is Apple Computer, Inc.'s user manual for MacWorks, the software that lets an Apple Lisa run Macintosh applications. 144 pages. The PDF metadata credits Apple Computer Inc. as author and was produced with Acrobat's Paper Capture, so it is an OCR'd scan with a text layer.

What it is

Apple states plainly on page 5 what this book is: "This manual is almost identical to the Macintosh owner's manual, except for a few photographs and instructions." So it is effectively the Macintosh owner's guide reissued for the Lisa, with a short preface covering the differences:

  • The Lisa has a larger screen than a Macintosh, so documents can be resized to show more.
  • The Lisa has more memory capacity than a Macintosh.

What it does not contain

This is a user manual, not a service manual. There is no schematic, no parts list, no component value, no adjustment procedure and no hardware fault-finding. Appendix B, "If Something Goes Wrong", is software and disk troubleshooting at owner level.
