The Macintosh IIvi is a desktop personal computer manufactured by Apple Computer, Inc. from October 1992 to February 1993.[1] The IIvi was a cost-reduced version of the Macintosh IIvx, featuring the same 68030 processor but running at 16 MHz instead of 32 MHz, and lacking the L2 cache and FPU of its faster sibling.
The IIvi was sold in South America, Europe, and Japan, but not in the United States. The consumer version sold in the US was the Performa 600.[2]

[edit | edit source]The Macintosh IIvi uses a Motorola MC68030 microprocessor running at 16 MHz.[3]

Power

[edit | edit source]Apple's Electrical specification for the IIvi, IIvx and Performa 600 is in three parts, and they are easy to conflate:[4]
- A/C line input: 100–120 VAC, 200 W
- A/C line output receptacle: 100–240 VAC, 3 A maximum — this is the switched monitor
outlet on the back, not the machine's own input
- DC power: 112 W maximum
"Input voltage 100–240 V AC" circulates for this machine. That is the output receptacle's rating. Apple prints the machine's own line input as 100–120 VAC — a domestic figure — so a 220–240 V IIvx is a different supply, and its primary-side parts are not interchangeable with a 110 V one. Check which board is in front of you before ordering primary-side capacitors.
"230 W maximum" also circulates for this machine and is not Apple's figure for any part of this machine: 200 W is the AC input rating and 112 W the DC output. 230 W is the Macintosh IIfx figure.
Apple publishes no rail tolerance and no power-supply adjustment for this machine.
Battery
[edit | edit source]3.6 V ½AA lithium; Apple's instruction is to replace it below 2.8 V[4] — measured on the 10 V DC range. 2.8 V is the IIcx / IIci / IIvi / IIvx / Quadra 700 / SE / SE-30 figure; 3.0 V and 3.2 V belong to other machines and get transplanted between them. Lithium leakage is neutralised with bicarbonate of soda, not vinegar.
Case Design
[edit | edit source]The IIvi uses the same high-profile desktop case as the Macintosh IIvx, Performa 600, Macintosh Centris 650, Macintosh Quadra 650, and Power Macintosh 7100. The case includes a front-accessible 5.25" bay for an optional CD-ROM drive.
