The Macintosh IIvi is a desktop personal computer manufactured by Apple Computer, Inc. from October 1992 to February 1993.[1] The IIvi was a cost-reduced version of the Macintosh IIvx, featuring the same 68030 processor but running at 16 MHz instead of 32 MHz, and lacking the L2 cache and FPU of its faster sibling.

The IIvi was sold in South America, Europe, and Japan, but not in the United States. The consumer version sold in the US was the Performa 600.[2]

Architecture and Processor

[edit | edit source]

The Macintosh IIvi uses a Motorola MC68030 microprocessor running at 16 MHz.[3]

  • Clock Speed: 16 MHz
  • Bus Speed: 16 MHz
  • Data Path: 32-bit
  • L1 Cache: 0.5 KB (on-chip)
  • L2 Cache: None
  • FPU: Optional Motorola 68882

The IIvi lacks the 32K L2 cache found in the IIvx, making it slower in cache-dependent operations.

For cleaning, battery maintenance, and inspection procedures, see the Macintosh IIvi General Maintenance page.

Capacitor Replacement Guide

[edit | edit source]

The Macintosh IIvi logic board contains surface-mount electrolytic capacitors that leak over time.

For capacitor specifications and procedures, see the Macintosh IIvi Capacitor Replacement Guide.
