IBM PS2 Model 60 Technical Reference (May 1988)

The IBM Personal System/2 Model 60 Technical Reference is IBM's 56-page model-specific interface reference for the PS/2 Model 60 (8560), the floor-standing 80286 Micro Channel machine, First Edition, May 1988. It is to be used with the PS/2 Hardware Interface Technical Reference and the PS/2 and PC BIOS Interface Technical Reference. No later edition is hosted.

  • Section 1, System Overview (p. 1-1): description and model bytes, system board features, block diagram, I/O address map and specifications (p. 1-7), including physical specifications (Figure 1-5, p. 1-8).
  • Section 2, Programmable Option Select (p. 2-1): POS address map, card selected feedback, system board enable/setup (hex 0094), POS registers 2 and 3 (hex 0102, 0103) and adapter enable/setup (hex 0096).
  • Section 3, System Board (p. 3-1): Micro Channel adapter identification and central arbiter, ROM and RAM, the real-time clock and CMOS RAM (p. 3-10), NMI, system control ports B and A, power-on password (p. 3-25) and hardware compatibility (p. 3-26).

What this manual does not contain

It is a programming and interface reference: no FRU numbers, removal procedures, symptom index, schematics or component values. There is no power supply section; for supply checks use IBM's PS/2 Hardware Maintenance Manual.

What it settles

Figure 1-5 (p. 1-8): 165 mm wide (318 mm with the feet extended), 483 mm deep, 597 mm high, 20 kg with one fixed disk drive, heat output 363.4 W, input 90-137 V or 180-265 V at a maximum of 5.3 A or 2.7 A, and maximum allowable currents of 275 mA from the keyboard port and 300 mA from the auxiliary device port. The keyboard cable is 3.05 m.
