Color StyleWriter 4100 and 4500 Service Source
Appearance
The Color StyleWriter 4100 and 4500 volume of Apple's Service Source is Apple's 165-page field-service manual for the Color StyleWriter 4100 and Color StyleWriter 4500, which Apple calls the Color StyleWriter 4000 Series, "desktop color bubble-jet printers for personal use". The title page reads Color StyleWriter 4100 and 4500; the file is stored as color_stylewriter_4500.4100.pdf.[1]

Notes from the manual
[edit | edit source]- Apple lists three differences between the models: the 4500 can produce photo-quality prints, can print on banner (z-fold) paper, and prints slightly faster than the 4100 (p. 4).[1]
- If a printer comes in for service and the customer has had it for a while, Apple says to replace the capping unit. Special Servicing Considerations gives the capping assembly as 922-3010 (4100) and 922-2855 (4500) (p. 19), but the exploded view lists the capping assembly as 922-3009 (4100) and 922-2854 (4500), and 922-2855 as the purge unit (p. 165). Check the number against current parts information before ordering.[1]
- After replacing the logic board or the ink cartridges on a 4500, recalibrate banner printing with the Color StyleWriter 4500 Banner Calibration utility from the Diagnostic folder of the Service Source Companion CD.[1]
- Do not touch or remove any mechanical assembly screw that the Take Apart chapter does not call out: Apple says doing so puts the printer out of alignment and requires a new mechanical assembly (p. 20).[1]
