Color StyleWriter 2200 Service Source
Appearance
The Color StyleWriter 2200 volume of Apple's Service Source is Apple's 93-page field-service manual for the Color StyleWriter 2200, which Apple describes as "a desktop color bubble-jet printer for personal use". The printer takes either a four-colour ink cartridge or a high-performance black cartridge, and can run from a NiCad battery pack fitted to its underside.[1]

Notes from the manual
[edit | edit source]- The battery is a NiCad pack, Apple part 661-0697, held on by a battery attachment (922-1594) that is released with a thumbwheel on the underside. When refitting the battery, line up the arrows.[1] For a swollen or leaking pack see Battery Explosion, Capacitor or Corrosion Damage.
- A "Waste ink absorbers full" message means the waste ink full error, and Apple's cure is to replace the print unit assembly. After replacing the print unit, the waste ink count in the EEPROM on the controller board is reset: with the AC adapter plugged into the mains but not into the printer, hold the Power and Purge buttons while connecting it, then follow the LED sequence on pp. 89–91.[1]
- For paper feed faults Apple supplied a paper pickup roller cleaning tool; the customer moistens its pads with water and prints a blank document with no paper loaded, in a 13-step procedure (pp. 82–88). In the US it was available free from 1-800-SOS-APPL.[1]
- Do not use ammonia-based or alcohol-based cleaners on or around the printer, as they may react with the plastic, and do not use any liquid cleaners inside it.[1]
- The print head cleaning procedure (pp. 77–81) warns against the Super Cleaning option except when necessary, because it uses a great deal of ink. Its first step refers to the "Color StyleWriter 2400 printing software" on the Service Source Companion CD; the Chooser step selects the Color StyleWriter 2200.[1]

What this manual does not contain
[edit | edit source]It is written at module level: there is no schematic, no component values and no capacitor list, and the only electrical figures are the mains ratings. Faults are cured by exchanging the assemblies above.[1]
