[edit | edit source]

The manual is in three parts.

Part 1, Le PCW9512:

  • Chapter 1, Mise en marche (setting up), p. 1: the cardboard transit insert in the drive; freeing the print head and ribbon cassette of the daisywheel printer; connecting the printer; copying the LocoScript 2 master disc
  • Chapter 2, Utilisation de votre PCW (using the PCW), p. 13: loading software, cleaning (p. 16), paper handling, changing the ribbon (pp. 23–24), changing the daisywheel (pp. 24–25)
  • Annex I, Extensions, p. 27: add-ons, among them the CPS8256 interface and other printers
  • Annex II, Résoudre les problèmes (troubleshooting), p. 37: the machine, the disc drive, starting up, the printer

Part 2, LocoScript: a LocoScript 2 course in three stages of sessions, from p. 45.

Part 3, CP/M, BASIC et LOGO: CP/M Plus, Mallard BASIC and Dr. Logo.

What it settles

[edit | edit source]
  • Transit packing: a piece of card in the drive (removed by pressing the eject button), a polystyrene block over the ribbon cassette, and a clip, pulled out by its plastic tie, that holds the print head at the far left of the carriage (pp. 3–4).
  • The printer cable ends in a 14-pin DIN plug marked for the PCW9512. The printer must not be unplugged with the PCW switched on (p. 5).
  • The power switch is on the back of the machine (p. 6).
  • Clean the screen and case with an anti-static aerosol, never with an alcohol-based cleaner (p. 16).
  • Ribbon cassettes are ordered as the cassette for the Amstrad PCW9512. A daisywheel is changed with the daisywheel adjustment lever inside the printer, and simply laid in place: it is not set to any particular character (pp. 23–25).
  • When the ribbon runs out, the printer stops and the PCW waits; fit a new ribbon and press Exit to continue. Paper does not autoload unless the paper release lever is pushed back (p. 41).
  • Start-of-day discs for the PCW8256, PCW8512 or CPC6128 cannot be used on the PCW9512 (p. 39).

What this manual does not contain

[edit | edit source]

There is no service information: no circuit diagrams, adjustments or parts lists. Amstrad's service manual for the later PCW 9512+ covers a related daisywheel printer and the later 3.5-inch model's boards.
