The Apple StyleWriter II is a 360 dpi monochrome ink-jet printer for the Macintosh, introduced in January 1993 to replace the original Apple StyleWriter and discontinued in April 1995.[1] Unlike the original, which runs from an external 9.5 V adapter, the StyleWriter II takes a mains power cord directly, and its sheet feeder holds 100 sheets.[2][3] Apple's Service Source for the Apple StyleWriter 1200 of 1995 describes that printer by its differences from the StyleWriter II, and the two share many service part numbers.[4]

Apple's two manuals give different figures for several items. The Service Source gives 48 W maximum power, 5-35 °C and 10-90% humidity, while the user's guide gives 19.5 W at 120 V (18 W at 220 V), 15-30 °C and 20-70%. The Service Source states speed as 124, 173 and 248 characters per second in its three quality modes; the user's guide gives up to 1.5, 2 and 3 pages per minute in best, normal and draft modes; and Apple's specification sheet gives 1 and 2 pages per minute.[3][2][1]

Test page

[edit | edit source]

Switch the printer on and hold down the online key for at least six seconds, or until the test page prints. It shows the ROM revision and a test pattern for checking that the ink jets work. If lines in the pattern are broken, Apple's next step is the printing section of its symptom charts.[3]

Service parts

[edit | edit source]

Most of the Service Source symptom charts end at "Replace printer" after the cartridge, cable, sensor and paper checks, but the exploded view lists separate parts:[3]
