825 Printer Field Service Manual

[edit | edit source]

The 825 Printer Field Service Manual is an Atari service manual marked "Region distribution only". No part number or date is printed in the scan. It covers the Atari 825, which is the Centronics 737, and the updated replacement model, the Centronics 739. The introduction lists the differences between the two logic boards: the 739 board has international character set ROMs and a DIP switch to select them, and inputs for a front panel power LED and a roll paper out switch that are not fitted. With a 737 8049 processor fitted, a 739 board works as a 737. The hosted copy is the Internet Archive's 60-page text-layer PDF.[1]

What this manual does not contain

[edit | edit source]
  • A component-level parts list. Table 7-1 lists subassemblies, a few chips, the fuses and cables.
  • Legible component values. The schematic and silkscreen pages are poor copies, and capacitor values cannot be read from them.
  • Voltage tolerances for the supply rails.
  • The T825 test program that the waveform section and the speed adjustment refer to, or the self-test set-up it cites from "paragraph 5.5" of the operator's manual.

The speed adjustment in section 4.5 names potentiometer R25 and a column interrupt period of 1.0 to 1.1 ms; figure 8-1 names R59 and 2.0 to 2.1 ms. The main filter capacitor is C3 in the theory section, while the board drawing in figure 4-3 shows a large can marked C14.
