Atari SM124 Documentation

From RetroTechCollection

Atari documentation for the Atari SM124 monochrome monitor: the service manuals for the two GoldStar chassis, MT-9 and MT-21, and the 1985 owner's manual. Atari's May 1986 summary specification for its ST monitors, which has an SM124 column, is described on Atari SC1224 Documentation.

What this manual does not contain

[edit | edit source]
  • A procedure for opening the case.
  • Any coverage of the MT-21 chassis.
  • Agreement on every designator: the adjustment text names VR301 as the sub-brightness control, where the board legend and the video chart give VR702, and Q303 is a KTC2229 in the voltage chart and a KTC2249 in the parts list.[1]

An older scan of the same manual on the Internet Archive (item SM124_Service_Manual_MT-9) has ten pages replaced by "missing page" placeholders; the hosted copy is a later, complete scan. Four pages of this manual (the exploded view, the schematic, the geometry page and the specification page) are also bound into the SC1224 CA-3 scan, File:Atari SC1224 Service Manual (CA-3 chassis).pdf, at PDF pages 2 to 5.[2]

SM124 Service Manual, chassis MT-21

[edit | edit source]

Atari's service manual for the SM124 on chassis MT-21, part number 483-351A, printed in Korea and undated. The scan has 27 pages and carries the stamp of Schaltungsdienst Lange, a Berlin schematic service, on the cover. PDF pages 1 to 22 are the manual itself, with printed page numbers matching the PDF; pages 23 to 27 are separate sheets.[3]

What this manual does not contain

[edit | edit source]
  • Clean values throughout. The scan is a photocopy, and some parts list entries disagree with the power circuit drawing (C909) or with the part number they carry (C305). See Atari SM124 Capacitor Replacement Guide.[3]
  • Any coverage of the MT-9.
