The Macintosh Performa 400 is a consumer-oriented personal computer introduced by Apple Computer on September 14, 1992.[1] It is a rebrand of the LC II for the consumer market, featuring identical hardware in the compact "pizza box" LC enclosure.
The Performa 400 uses a Motorola 68030 processor running at 16 MHz with a 16-bit data path. It shipped with 4 MB of RAM (expandable to 10 MB using 30-pin SIMMs), 512 KB of VRAM, and an 80 MB SCSI hard drive.

Relationship to LC II
[edit | edit source]The Performa 400 is identical to the LC II internally. The Performa line was marketed to home consumers through retail channels, while the LC II was sold to educational institutions. The Performa models shipped with bundled software including At Ease, ClarisWorks, and various educational or entertainment titles.
