The Macintosh Performa 6320CD is the 120 MHz model of Apple's Performa 6300 series of desktop Macintoshes, introduced on 22 April 1996.[1] Apple's service manual says it supersedes the Performa 6300CD and differs from it only in having a 120 MHz PowerPC 603e in place of the 100 MHz part.[2] EveryMac lists it at US$2,600 with a TV/video system and a 15-inch Apple colour monitor, with the TV tuner slot occupied as shipped, and names the Power Macintosh 6300/120, sold only in Asia, as its business version.[3]

The Macintosh Performa 6300CD page has the model table for the series, the full specification, the hardware notes and a selection of Apple's symptom charts.

Differences from the 6300CD board

[edit | edit source]

Apple's parts list gives the 6320 its own versions of several parts, shared with the Performa 6360:[2]

6320-specific parts (Apple exploded view)
Part 6300CD 6320CD
Logic board 661-1041 (100 MHz) 661-1175 (120 MHz)
Power supply 661-0170 661-1053
Fan/video card bracket 922-1160 922-2202
I/O door 922-1565 922-2434
Speaker 922-1175 922-2294

The 6320 logic board has a reset button, which Apple calls the Cuda reset button; the Service Source has a diagram of its position, which differs from the 6360's. Apple's logic board reset for this model is: take out the logic board, unplug the battery from the board, wait five to ten minutes, refit the battery, then press the reset button with a flat plastic tool before sliding the board back in at an upward angle to clear the EMI clips. Afterwards, check the date, time and other parameter RAM settings.[2] Try zapping the parameter RAM first by holding Command-Option-P-R at start-up.[2]

Battery and repair notes

[edit | edit source]

The battery is a 4.5 V alkaline pack.[1] Apple's test is to measure it on the 10 V DC range with the logic board out and replace it below 3.0 V.[2] Neutralise alkaline leakage with a weak acid such as vinegar; see Battery Explosion, Capacitor or Corrosion Damage.

Apple's repair extension programme for freezes and colour-hue changes on the Performa 6200 and 6300 series excludes the 6320.[2] The general symptom charts in the same manual still apply to it.
