Macintosh Performa 6230CD
The Macintosh Performa 6230CD is a model in Apple's Performa 6200 series of desktop Macintoshes. Apple's specification sheet gives it a 75 MHz PowerPC 603, 16 MB of RAM and a 1 GB IDE hard drive, with an introduction date of 17 July 1995.[1] EveryMac describes it as the 6220CD with a TV/MPEG card in place of the TV card, and no monitor, at US$2,500 (order number M4103LL/A).[2]
The Macintosh Performa 6200CD page has the model table for the series, the full specification, Apple's repair extension procedure and a selection of Apple's symptom charts.

TV and video
[edit | edit source]The TV card is Apple's TV/Video System: a video-in card in the 60-pin video-in slot and a TV tuner module on the 10-pin tuner connector. The video-in card digitises video from the tuner or from external composite or S-video, in NTSC, PAL or SECAM, and takes stereo audio. The tuner needs the video-in card; in the United States it receives NTSC only.[3] Video input does not work in the 832 × 624 mode.[3]
MPEG card
[edit | edit source]Apple's symptom charts have two entries for machines with the MPEG card. For sound distortion, fit a modified MPEG card, which has a jumper from U5 pin 2 to D1 pin 1. If video will not play or the system hangs when video runs, check the chip at U12 on the MPEG card: if it reads 341S0205 check all the connections, otherwise replace the card.[3]
Battery and repair extension
[edit | edit source]The battery is a 4.5 V alkaline pack.[1] Apple's test is to measure it on the 10 V DC range with the logic board out and replace it below 3.0 V.[3] Neutralise alkaline leakage with a weak acid such as vinegar; see Battery Explosion, Capacitor or Corrosion Damage.
Apple names the Performa 6230 among the models in its repair extension programme for system freezes and sudden changes in video colour hue. The repair checks the clock chip at U10 (it should be part 343S1191 or 343S1121) and the cache/ROM DIMM, and replaces the logic board or the DIMM (661-1278) as needed; the full procedure is on the Performa 6200CD page.[3]
