The Macintosh Performa 600 is the Performa version of the Macintosh IIvx, introduced by Apple on 14 September 1992 and discontinued on 18 October 1993.[1] It has the same case, logic board design and 32 MHz 68030 as the IIvx, but Apple left out the IIvx's 32 KB cache and made the 68882 FPU optional, with an empty socket on the board.[2] Macworld measured the IIvx 25 to 35 per cent faster than the Performa 600.[3] A version with a CD-ROM drive was sold as the Macintosh Performa 600CD.
EveryMac lists the base Performa 600 at US$2,000 with 4 MB of RAM and an 80 MB hard drive (order number K0119LL/A), and a 5 MB version (K0121LL/A); neither had a CD-ROM drive.[4] Apple's specification sheet, which covers the 600 and 600CD together, gives 160 MB as the smallest internal hard drive.[1]

The Service Source prints the A/C line input as 100-120 V AC at 200 W and the monitor outlet as 100-240 V AC, 3 A maximum.[5] The developer note describes the supply as adapting automatically to any input from 85 to 270 V AC.[2]
Hardware
[edit | edit source]Apple's logic board part number for the Performa 600 is 661-0761 (661-0759 for the IIvx and 661-0760 for the IIvi).[5] Software that uses an FPU has to check for one through the Gestalt Manager, because the socket may be empty; the Performa 600 reports Gestalt machine type 45.[2] The 120-pin accelerator slot takes accelerator cards only: Apple warns that processor-direct cards for other Macintosh models use the same connector with different signals and may damage the card and the computer.[2]
The PRAM battery is a 3.6 V lithium cell.[1] Apple's test is to measure it on the 10 V DC range and replace it below 2.8 V.[5] Neutralise any leakage from a lithium cell with bicarbonate of soda; see Battery Explosion, Capacitor or Corrosion Damage.
