Battery and repair extension

[edit | edit source]

The battery is a 4.5 V alkaline pack.[1] Apple's test is to measure it on the 10 V DC range with the logic board out and replace it below 3.0 V.[3] Neutralise alkaline leakage with a weak acid such as vinegar; see Battery Explosion, Capacitor or Corrosion Damage.

Apple names the Performa 6218 among the models in its repair extension programme for system freezes and sudden changes in video colour hue. The repair checks the clock chip at U10 (it should be part 343S1191 or 343S1121) and the cache/ROM DIMM, and replaces the logic board or the DIMM (661-1278) as needed; the full procedure is on the Performa 6200CD page.[3]
