What it settles
[edit | edit source]- At launch the 2400c was sold only in Japan and the United States, and US service was through Apple's central repair; ordinary service providers could add RAM and replace trackpads and keyboards (pp. 5-6).
- The 2400c needs its own lithium-ion battery (M5876LL/A), 36 W adapter (M5937LL/A) and external floppy drive (M5853LL/A), and cannot use Duo docks or accessories (pp. 4, 7, 15).
- The backup battery is described as a 30 mAh rechargeable lithium battery (p. 29). MacDat lists the 2400c among laptops with leaking NiMH backup packs; see PowerBook 2400c General Maintenance.
- The display cable lies directly below the left side of the top case and can be torn when the case is lifted (p. 36).
- RAM: 16 MB on the logic board, expandable to 80 MB in Apple's specification table (p. 22).
What this manual does not contain
[edit | edit source]- No troubleshooting chapter, no symptom charts, no additional procedures and no exploded view.
- No procedures for the hard drive, display, inverter, hinges, logic board or power board.
- No schematics and no component values.
Owner's manual
[edit | edit source]The Macintosh PowerBook 2400c User's Manual (1997, 159 pages) is hosted as File:PowerBook 2400c User's Manual (1997).pdf.[2] Its "Tips and Troubleshooting" chapter (from PDF p. 88) is the only Apple fault-finding text for the 2400c: resetting with Command, Control and power and with the reset button, the steady green sleep light, the breaking-glass sound, PRAM resets, and a flickering display that changes with the angle of the lid, which it attributes to a loose cable (pp. 89-104). Chapter 5 covers power management and the battery (from p. 80).
